Born in Virginia, Minnesota, Attorney Johnson graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1984. An only child, her mother was a special education teacher at the Hibbing High School, and her father was the milkman, a business owner of the dairy originally Johnson Bros. Dairy, and later, Land O' Lakes.
Upon high school graduation, she attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude, in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English.
Thereafter, she attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she graduated with a Doctorate Degree in Jurisprudence in 1991. She was admitted into practice of law by the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1992.
From 1992 through 1993, she accepted a judicial law clerk position at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Hibbing, Minnesota, Sixth Judicial District working with Honorable David E. Ackerson and Honorable Jeffrey Rantala. At the end of her clerkship, she went immediately opened her own law firm going into a partnership with former law school collegue and friend, Todd E. Deal, Attorney at Law and Certified Public Accountant.
The law firm partnership of Johnson & Deal opened in October of 1993 and operated in the newly renovated office located at 208 S 5th Ave, Virginia, MN 55792, only one half block from the St. Louis County Courthouse, Virginia, Minnesota, on Fifth Avenue. This is where her office remains today, 25 years in business of the private practice of law dedicated only to family law matters. In 1997 the partnership split and she became a professional corporation M. Johnson Law Firm, P.A.
